Oh, man, so what’s new?

We’ve had visitors! So many visitors! We’ve been seeing everyone that there is to see, and some people that cannot be optically seen!

First we got Grammy as a visitor, Jessie’s grandmother. She stayed with us for a few days and we showed her around the city. We took her up to the Getty and showed her where we got engaged and even, and this was a treat, got to go inside and see some of the exhibits. We’ve meant to or actually gone up there a couple of times, but this is the first time we’ve actually been inside the museum. There’s some cool stuff there!

Two weeks later, we got Jessie’s sister and one of Jessie’s nephews. They’re already breaking him into calling me ‘Uncle Noel’. So cute. We took him to Disneyland, the ‘inferior’ Disney locale, according to the Florida residents. It was actually pretty cool; there were some new rides since I had last been there…in 1994. We also went to the Redondo Beach pier, saw a band, had some pizza, and my almost-nephew won himself a blow-up superman that is bigger than he is. Well, at least for now. You know how kids grow. We also got him totally addicted to Mario brothers on the DS, though he was already addicted to Mario brothers on the original game boy. Now that’s some clever stuff, right there. When I have kids, the first game system they’ll be getting will be the PS2, and I’ll have all the games already packaged up for Christmas. Genius.

Then last weekend, I traveled out to help my little sister K move in for college. Stuff happened, but none of it particularly interesting if you’re not me. I will, however, point out that I spent a lot of time hanging out at the local arcade, and I left my spare tokens with K when I left. We got her all set up, though, and I did all the heavy lifting that older brothers are employed for. I really liked helping her shop for food, pointing out the sort of college staples that would hopefully get her through her first year of feeding herself. Made me feel all growed up and experienced. Aah.

Then the weekend after labor day, we’re going up to see family in Spokane, which will be awesome. Then in October, we’re going to Florida to do *Wedding planning*. Then Vegas for thanksgiving and Florida for Christmas. Crikey! That’s a lot of miles!

The holiday deluge of video games has begun! Oh, man, it’s so great. I’m deep into Bioshock, which is a very pretty, very interesting, and very spooky shooter with a heck of a good story. Then Metroid 3 and Blue Dragon, then Stranglehold, then Mass Effect, and Halo 3, and Rock band and all sorts of stuff in between. Fun times in the next generation of video games, let me tell you.

I’m making some slow, tentative progress on my story again, but I’ll have to get some literary momentum going if I actually want to get anywhere. I’m planning a complete rewrite of chapters 7 and 8, and probably a few more big changes along the way, too. It’s just a big job, so I feel like I have to be ready to tackle a lot of writing all at once before I go at it.

TKD is good too, my mile swim time is actually down to a 35 minute mile, which is what you need to do for a black belt, which is exciting. Unfortunately, right after that I have to be able to do my pushups and situps, and swimming is a lot harder on the arms than running is, so I have to be extra-good at pushups if I plan to be able to pull that off. Work continues.

Um…I suppose that’s about it for this installment. Broad, sweeping information, generally. I’ll try to be more interesting next time.
